What happens when the group is all settled

A trip group ends; a household group does not. People who live together settle up every month and start over, and with nothing else in place the expense list would only grow — by the eighth month, finding yesterday's groceries would mean scrolling past two hundred lines already paid.

So when a settlement brings the group to zero, the month is closed on its own: that month's expenses leave the list and are kept in Closed periods, and the list starts over empty. Whoever settled up sees a notice explaining what happened.

It is the settlement that closes the month, not the balance passing through zero: in a group of two who happened to pay equal amounts, the balance reaches zero mid-month without anyone having settled anything, and there the expenses stay where they are.

When the group reaches zero without needing any transfer — everyone paid exactly their own share — the closing does not fire on its own. In People and settling up a Close the month button appears.

An expense from a closed month cannot be edited or deleted: touching it would reopen someone's account inside a month that has already been paid. To fix something, open the period in Closed periods and tap Reopen this period — the expenses go back to the month's list and can be edited again.
